When you think of ye olden days and how they powered things, if indeed that is the sort of thing you ever think about, you tend to assume that all the heavy pulling and lifting was done by horses, mules and donkeys.
But even way back then there were people who liked to think different. Which at that time meant harnessing the power of dogs, even goats. Limited only by the horsepower of the average dog, pooches were used to in ‘dog-engines’ that powered things like sewing machines. There was even a special breed developed for the purpose called ‘the Turnspit’, which now appears to be extinct.
