According to the Weyland-Yutani Archives the awakening sequence of Ridley Scott’s SF horror classic was originally intended to run much longer. Starting off with a close-up of Kane’s nostril, his cryo tube opens, he gets up and starts making coffee for the crew. Then one by one each crew member gets up and stumbles in for coffee, the scene intended to introduce the Nostromo’s crew to the audience individually.
The first few scenes of Kane were filmed but not the entire sequence. Unfortunately, the studio- who had already bumped the budget up from $4.5 million to a $8.5 million on the strength of Ridley Scott’s pre-production storyboards (Ridleygrams)- deemed the naked revival of the crew a bit too ‘pornographic’. Hence the version we know, with the cast in shorts and not much time spent on the actual awakening.

Here are Ridley Scott’s original ‘Ridleygrams’.
