Neuschwanstein Castle

If you’re kind of reclusive and also happen to be a king then I suppose you can get away with coming up with a pretty fancy place to avoid the world from.

It seems that’s exactly what Ludwig II of Bavaria was thinking when he went and build Neuschwanstein Castle in 1869. Unfortunately he died before it was complete and it was opened to the public the year of his death in 1886.
