Fire Tornado Tears It Up In The Australian Outback

Fire tornado

Filmmaker Chris Tangey was out scouting locations in the Australian outback near Alice Springs on Tuesday when he shot this wild footage of a 100-foot-high fire tornado doing its thing.

According to the experts, the name ‘fire tornado’ is a misnomer because the columns of spinning fire are much more similar to dust devils than tornadoes- so they should really be called fire vortices. And apparently they’re also more common than you might imagine, though it is certainly rare to see footage like this.
