These images might look like something Nasa just beamed down from another planet but they are in fact pictures of a natural landscape from right here on Earth.
The Danxia landform refers to various crazy landscapes found in southeast and southwest China that are formed from red-coloured sandstones and conglomerates and named after Mount Danxia, one of the most famous examples of the phenomenon.
The photos are from the Zhangye danxia landform, concentrated predominantly in Linze and Sunan counties in Gansu province and the largest and most typical of them all. The Zhangye’s danxia formations and colorful hills cover about 300 square kilometers.

Why isn’t this one of the natural wonders of the world? Without a doubt, this is one of the most magical places that earth has produced.
